Winter Skin

Amidst the holiday cheer this season, you may find skin looking a little less then sparkling. Whether your skin is dry, oily, sensitive or perfectly normal, the impending winter weather will affect your skin. Year after year you hear the same advice—lower the thermostat, moisturize, drink more water and break out the humidifier. And ever year, this doesn’t change much. Here are a few suggestions you may not have heard before:

  • Bathe less frequently. Now we don’t want things to get smelly, but as Americans we can be a little obsessed with cleanliness. Try to keep it to once a day or (gasp) every other day during the colder months
  • And while you’re at it, change your shampoo to something with low sudsing, chemicals that make a product foam also break down our natural lipid barrier.
  • Edit your skin care routine. Here is where that extra moisturizing step comes in. You may want to include a stronger moisturizer or hyaluronic acid that helps create a moisture barrier, we love MoistuSilk or  Vitamin C crystals by Cosmedix  from our Holiday Survival Kit!
  • Keep exfoliating. In fact, step it up! Exfoliation rids the skin surface of old dead skin cells which makes skin look dry and keeps your products from penetrating deep into the skin. We are adding new peels to our list everyday, Lauran was particularly fond of her deep sea peel!

How did June do it?

Ready or not, the holiday season is almost here! And while it brings many things—camaraderie, giving and receiving and an all around joyous atmosphere, it also means our daily to-do lists get even longer. While we may be feeling in the spirit, we may not always look it. At the end of the day, one glance in the mirror may result in a far cry from the June Cleaver look-a-like you imagined yourself to be.

Stress can be a major contributing factor as to why our skin, kind of goes berserk during the holiday season. The stress hormone cortisol is responsible for things like regulating our blood pressure, immune functions and inflammatory response. When our body starts feeling chronic stress, like the kind induced during the holiday season, our cortisol levels stay too high for too long. Combined with cold weather and dry skin—just how did June do it?

Well, she was fictional—and she had a great skincare plan. Maintaining healthy skin throughout the holiday season is simple, but specific. I always say you don’t need 12 steps, just 3 good ones. FUZION can customize an easy skin care regimen that combines specific medical grade products that will keep your skin glowing throughout the holiday season. Did anyone try any during out Open House? Back with more tips next week, Laura

Isolaz Acne Laser Treatment #4

Hello FUZION fans,

I wanted to make another quick Isolaz Acne Treatment update. I just had my fourth round of the laser with Laura this afternoon. She asked me to try and quantify the results so far. I would say at least 50% change, maybe even 60%. At the risk of sounding like a bad acne solution commercial, I can’t remember the last time the skin around my hairline and chin was this clear. My cheek’s are pretty persistent, but still improved.

My face just feels better. There is no worse feeling than a clogged pore under your skin and waiting until it shows itself as a huge red blemish. I am so happy to just feel like my skin is fresh and healthy. I have been getting some great feedback and today Gina even popped in to see the procedure for herself. My Isolaz Acne Laser YouTube video has 200 views!

Compare the first photo right after my first Isoalz treatment to the one I took just a minute ago, nice improvement huh?

Easy At Home Peel

Our clients always ask how they can freshen up their skin at home. Typically, I recommend what we call Saturday Night Brightener Pads! These are a great little trick to have in your beauty toolbox that give you a safe, peel-like result any night of the week. Saturday Night Pads are saturated with glycol acids and can be used once or twice a week to brighten your sin and enhance other skin care treatments. It works great as a light exfoliation for all skin types and even those little bumps on the back of the arms.

Prepping for my third round of Isolaz Acne Treatment

Hello everyone,

I am getting ready for my third round of the Isolaz acne treatment this week. The results so far have been outstanding.

The most noticeable improvement is simply the reduced amount of breakouts. I still have a trouble area or two near my chin and hairline that you can see in the photo below, but my cheeks (traditionally they are just awful) are so smooth.

That is the second most noticeable improvement. Because my skin is not breaking out it feels so smooth. Usually by the time one break out was healing, another one was starting. Now that the breakouts have reduced, my skin is actually getting a chance to heal and it feels healthier then it has since this random case of acne began. When I put light makeup on it glides over my skin and doesn’t feel like I am slopping it on or smothering my pores. I guess I really am starting to believe that feeling good starts with looking good.

Laura gave me a stronger chemical peel last time which, despite the sunburned and peeling look I sported for the weekend, seems to be doing wonders to my overall skin tone.

The Power of the Peel

Few cosmetic treatments can change your skins appearance more than a professional facial peel. Varying peel products can be found everywhere from your local CVS to specialty make-up stores to the dermatologists office. However, the real secret to beautiful skin lies with finding the right professional Medical Aesthetician.

There are a myriad of choices, and not everything is right for everyone. Truthfully, not everything that claims to be a peel, actually is. The right peel is out there, but first you must find the right person for the job. The right Medical Aesthetician should make you feel comfortable and confident. Ask friends and family for recommendations, ask about his or her credentials, experience and education. There is power in the peel—find the one that is right for you!

Lessons in Latisse

I just had what seems like an unusual question from one of our favorite patients, “What am I doing to cause abnormal hair growth on my cheeks and the bone under my eyes?”

My first question to her was, are you using Latisse? Latisse is one of our go-to products when it comes to growing lengthy lashes, but it does require proper and percise application. I explained to her that the natural heat and moisture of our skin can cause a product to “travel” in this case further down the slope of her face. I gave her a nice emollient eye cream to add to her nightly routine. This creates a barrier and prevents the Latisse from stimulating hair growth where she definitely doesn’t want it.

The moral of this story, is not to be afraid to come to us with even your most unusual skincare questions, because truthfully—we’ve heard it all! Make sure you check out our promotions on Latisse and other related eye-care products and services on our website.

Hi there, see that Isolaz video below—that’s me!

I was asked to provide everyone with a little update about the Isolaz acne laser procedure between treatments. (I am going back for my second pass with the laser tomorrow!) Now, I wasn’t shy about my decision to get the Isolaz laser and all week I have been hearing about how improved my skin looks, so you know, thanks everyone.

I am about to turn 23 and in the past year developed a fairly persistent case of acne (karma for those acne free high school years maybe?). It was nothing truly devastating mind you, but just enough to leave my skin feeling rough and make-up look caked. My CVS products weren’t working, but I was not about to spend the time and money on a dermatologist visit. When I was asked to begin researching Isolaz, it was almost too good to be true.

Now that I have had one full pass of the laser, my skin feels infinitely better. Almost instantly after the Isolaz treatment, my skin felt cleaner—like the dirt and grime had literally been sucked out of my skin. Laura even added the chemical peel and performed some extractions that  helped even out my skin tone. (It was red and raw from rubbing at those blackheads under the skin.)

Yesterday, I actually spent some time on my makeup. Now that the texture has begun to improve from the Isolaz laser, wearing make-up doesn’t make my skin feel suffocated. My concealer went on smoother and I didn’t feel like I had to pour it on to even out the color. My boss couldn’t stop marveling. My mother was intrigued, she is ready to come to the next Beauty Bash and even sign my teenage brother up for the service. (His dermatologist wants him to try Acutane, but mother bear does not like the blood tests that come with that, and little brother is never going to keep it up anyway.)

My skin is already so improved since the first treatment, I am eager to see the results of the next pass. A few bumps have sprouted up near my chin and hairline near my cheeks. I anticipate that this next pass will be truly sensational and I almost don’t believe that my skin can feel any better.

Here are some photos, straight from the iPhone. (Please excuse the awkward faces, I haven’t quite mastered the art of taking photos of yourself…) Scroll over them and click for a brief description!

Raging hormones, they’re not just for teenagers

Hormones can seriously impact the healthiness of your skin. Puberty, menstruation, birth control, pregnancy, lactation, peri-menopause, menopause (see where I am going with this….) all cause our hormones to basically “go crazy.”

The most obvious peril of hormonal skin is acne. We know that we cannot ‘cure’ acne in the traditional sense, but we keep you from agonizing breakout to breakout with the help of products and tools not available over the counter.

Our newest laser, Isolaz is a great place to start. Using a combined vacuum and laser technology the Isolaz laser helps to loosen dirt and oil from deep within your pores and destroy acne causing bacteria to ensure your face stays clear of future breakouts. It works for most types of acne anywhere on the body, as well as any skin type or skin tone.  Check out our fall specials for discounts on Isolaz and other skin care products.
