Amidst the holiday cheer this season, you may find skin looking a little less then sparkling. Whether your skin is dry, oily, sensitive or perfectly normal, the impending winter weather will affect your skin. Year after year you hear the same advice—lower the thermostat, moisturize, drink more water and break out the humidifier. And ever year, this doesn’t change much. Here are a few suggestions you may not have heard before:
- Bathe less frequently. Now we don’t want things to get smelly, but as Americans we can be a little obsessed with cleanliness. Try to keep it to once a day or (gasp) every other day during the colder months
- And while you’re at it, change your shampoo to something with low sudsing, chemicals that make a product foam also break down our natural lipid barrier.
- Edit your skin care routine. Here is where that extra moisturizing step comes in. You may want to include a stronger moisturizer or hyaluronic acid that helps create a moisture barrier, we love MoistuSilk or Vitamin C crystals by Cosmedix from our Holiday Survival Kit!
- Keep exfoliating. In fact, step it up! Exfoliation rids the skin surface of old dead skin cells which makes skin look dry and keeps your products from penetrating deep into the skin. We are adding new peels to our list everyday, Lauran was particularly fond of her deep sea peel!
