Winter Skin

Amidst the holiday cheer this season, you may find skin looking a little less then sparkling. Whether your skin is dry, oily, sensitive or perfectly normal, the impending winter weather will affect your skin. Year after year you hear the same advice—lower the thermostat, moisturize, drink more water and break out the humidifier. And ever year, this doesn’t change much. Here are a few suggestions you may not have heard before:

  • Bathe less frequently. Now we don’t want things to get smelly, but as Americans we can be a little obsessed with cleanliness. Try to keep it to once a day or (gasp) every other day during the colder months
  • And while you’re at it, change your shampoo to something with low sudsing, chemicals that make a product foam also break down our natural lipid barrier.
  • Edit your skin care routine. Here is where that extra moisturizing step comes in. You may want to include a stronger moisturizer or hyaluronic acid that helps create a moisture barrier, we love MoistuSilk or  Vitamin C crystals by Cosmedix  from our Holiday Survival Kit!
  • Keep exfoliating. In fact, step it up! Exfoliation rids the skin surface of old dead skin cells which makes skin look dry and keeps your products from penetrating deep into the skin. We are adding new peels to our list everyday, Lauran was particularly fond of her deep sea peel!

How did June do it?

Ready or not, the holiday season is almost here! And while it brings many things—camaraderie, giving and receiving and an all around joyous atmosphere, it also means our daily to-do lists get even longer. While we may be feeling in the spirit, we may not always look it. At the end of the day, one glance in the mirror may result in a far cry from the June Cleaver look-a-like you imagined yourself to be.

Stress can be a major contributing factor as to why our skin, kind of goes berserk during the holiday season. The stress hormone cortisol is responsible for things like regulating our blood pressure, immune functions and inflammatory response. When our body starts feeling chronic stress, like the kind induced during the holiday season, our cortisol levels stay too high for too long. Combined with cold weather and dry skin—just how did June do it?

Well, she was fictional—and she had a great skincare plan. Maintaining healthy skin throughout the holiday season is simple, but specific. I always say you don’t need 12 steps, just 3 good ones. FUZION can customize an easy skin care regimen that combines specific medical grade products that will keep your skin glowing throughout the holiday season. Did anyone try any during out Open House? Back with more tips next week, Laura

Follow Susan getting Laser Hair Removal

Susan recently underwent her first laser hair removal treatment with Kati. Her main concern was Susan’s upper lip—something we find is a common concern for many women. This is a great overview of how the procedure works and what to expect. Typically there is some discomfort with this procedure, but Susan makes it look like just another day at FUZION.

Follow Susan’s Fraxel Laser Treatment and HEMO-fil (PRP)

Susan has been such a strong patient throughout her makeover process and we felt comfortable recommending she receive a Fraxel CO2 Repair Laser Treatment. FUZION offers a full spectrum of lasers in our beauty toolbox, and we can’t stress enough that this is the most extreme. The Fraxel laser is the last step before plastic surgery and to be honest, it hurts. However, we know the results are worth it and as we expected Susan was an absolute trooper.

She even allowed us to follow the procedure with another one of our most powerful services, HEMO-fil. HEMO-fil, also known as platelet rich plasma (PRP), is a 100% natural dermal filler that uses your natural stem cells to improve your skins texture, tone and overall fill. These aren’t the two most glamorous procedures, but for anyone looking to make a giant beauty leap and start their new year’s resolutions early they have amazing results. The unveil is near people!

New Deep Sea Peel

Recently I decided to bring my concerns about the texture of my skin to Laura and Kati to see if they could help. It wasn’t so much wrinkles that I wanted to focus on, but the bumps and small scars on my cheeks. This is a complaint I can thank my late teen hormones for and there are still some remnants of those dark days on my face in the form of tiny, but in my opinion, noticeable scars.

Kati and Laura suggested a Deep Sea peel from Cosmedix—one of the most popular brands at FUZION. This is not a retinol based peel like the ones I have tried (and loved) in the past. A deep sea peel works further into the dermal layer to help build collagen over time. I would see maximum results in about 4 weeks! Oh four weeks, hurry!

Laura started with her typical cleansing and extractions before I got a glance at the dark green, gritty mixture she was going to apply to my face. She explained that this gritty substance was coral powder, amongst other marine particles and yes, it was going on my face. Basically if you have ever gone snorkeling and accidentally grazed or worse, ran into coral—it hurts and this was going to feel similar. However, it was definitely tolerable and I am confident the results will be worth it.

Laura massaged the gritty concoction on my face for four minutes (Four is the goal and I made it!). The longer you can tolerate the massage, the better the result. The mixture was left on my face for about 10 minutes. It was a little prickly with some burning, but again certainly tolerable. The removal was the worst part because I still had bits and pieces of coral sitting on my skin. You can remove the entire peel, but for me I was already feeling pretty tender and had to cry “mercy” and left some to hang out.

Don’t make plans to touch your face post peel, because even a graze of your hair would re-stimulate the peel. As far as washing and caring for your skin in the aftermath I suggest you be gentle. Use a gentle cleanser, no sponges or Clarisonic. Use sunscreen (and YES Laura will know if you don’t) and a moisturizer.

Laura said I could expect to be dry for a while and experience light peeling. It was hard to imagine I would peel at all after the exfoliation I just had, but apparently my skin had more to give. Hopefully I will be posting some more before and after photos of the deep sea peel and updates on the results!

Isolaz Acne Laser Treatment #4

Hello FUZION fans,

I wanted to make another quick Isolaz Acne Treatment update. I just had my fourth round of the laser with Laura this afternoon. She asked me to try and quantify the results so far. I would say at least 50% change, maybe even 60%. At the risk of sounding like a bad acne solution commercial, I can’t remember the last time the skin around my hairline and chin was this clear. My cheek’s are pretty persistent, but still improved.

My face just feels better. There is no worse feeling than a clogged pore under your skin and waiting until it shows itself as a huge red blemish. I am so happy to just feel like my skin is fresh and healthy. I have been getting some great feedback and today Gina even popped in to see the procedure for herself. My Isolaz Acne Laser YouTube video has 200 views!

Compare the first photo right after my first Isoalz treatment to the one I took just a minute ago, nice improvement huh?

FUZION’s Holiday Survival Kit

Tis’ the season for overindulgence and over stressing. In the midst of last minute shopping trips and long days of travel, it can be difficult to find the time and energy to take care of yourself. As our gift to you, the experts here at FUZION have put together our 10 Holiday Tips + Tricks to put in your holiday survival kit. These should help you maintain a healthy holiday glow all season long.

  1. Staying sunny—It’s hard to stay cheerful if your skin is feeling dull, but remember the sun is always shining and you should always be wearing sunblock. We aren’t talking about that pasty white gunk you slather on in the summer, but a FUZION formula sunblock that can help protect your skin and maintain that holiday glow during the winter months.
  2. More Vitamin C—We can’t stress enough how damaging the winter months can be on your skin. We recommend also including a green tea serum or Vitamin C crystals by Cosmedix in your skin care regimen to help your skin stay healthy during those long days of travel.
  3. Keep traditions alive—Except dry skin. Don’t let yourself suffer from another holiday season of dry and cracking skin. FUZION’s fix is to add MoistuSilk to your current moisturizer. We even have a great spray on MoistuSilk for the entire body.
  4. Stow away the stretch pants—Even the experts at FUZION find it hard to resist all those holiday pies and tasty holiday martinis. We say—indulge! But be prepared for the fallout with our Designs for Health supplements and DETOX programs that can help you get back on track with a healthy and balanced diet. Even our 3 day DETOX can help you feel lighter and less sluggish when the excitement of the holidays wears off.
  5. Smile!—Our medical grade teeth whitening is a go to service for getting your pearly whites bright and shiny for your holiday events.
  6. Smooth it out—Be prepared for every flash and subsequent Facebook tag that will abound during this holiday season. A little BOTOX, Dysport or Xeamin goes a long way in making sure you feel refreshed, youthful and photo-ready. But these appointments fill up fast, so remember to book early!
  7. Pamper yourself—Take some time out of your hectic shopping schedule and party hopping to pamper yourself. A chemical peel, laser peel, microdermabrasion or IPL photo facial are painless, get-up-and-go procedures with long-term glowing power.
  8. Stay energized—This can be easier said then done and FUZION can help. Energy healing is a metaphysical experience that helps balance your flow of energy and alleviates pain from stress. This is a complimentary pre-opp service for anyone who receives a surgical procedure. But anyone can reap the benefits, that’s why it is available as a must-consider service!
  9. Find clarity—Inside and out. Stress can cause breakouts and well, then you end up stressing out about breakouts, which causes more breakouts [you get the picture]. Clarisonic, our miracle zit stick and the new Tanda (an at-home LED system) are some of the best ways we know for keeping breakouts at bay and maintaining a clear face.
  10. Relax—Are you still feeling overwhelmed? Then our final tip is to come see us for a FREE consultation. It is our pleasure to help you keep up with your holiday goals all the way in 2012.
And remember, gift giving can be easy—FUZION’s pre-packaged gift cards can help you go that little extra mile when it comes to gift giving. Mothers, wives, girlfriends, sisters, significant others and friends all deserve a gift that is just for them. We can even mail them for you and help ease a little of the stress that comes with finding the perfect gift. Especially with our Holiday Gift Card Special where we give you a gift card too!

Easy At Home Peel

Our clients always ask how they can freshen up their skin at home. Typically, I recommend what we call Saturday Night Brightener Pads! These are a great little trick to have in your beauty toolbox that give you a safe, peel-like result any night of the week. Saturday Night Pads are saturated with glycol acids and can be used once or twice a week to brighten your sin and enhance other skin care treatments. It works great as a light exfoliation for all skin types and even those little bumps on the back of the arms.
