Facial progress continues. Today Kati took the AFFIRM laser to the sides of my temples where the most severe scarring was. Over all the procedure took less than 5 minutes! AFFIRM does not hurt nearly as much as FRAXEL, in fact there were no meds or topical anesthetic needed. I am a little red, and Kati assured me that it would be better in the am, she also pointed out that because I had the FRAXEL a little over a month ago, the skin is a bit more sensitive. I am able to go about my daily skin routine as well.
After my date with Kati, I had a follow up with Laura, FUZION’s aesthetician. Laura went over my skin care routine with me to see if she needed to tweak it any way. Currently I am set, with the CLAIRSONIC, Purity Vlean wash, Hydra Peptide Gel for moisture and Nikel Eye Crème. Laura did add a moisturizer with sunscreen that she wants me to use daily.
Laura also scheduled me for a chemical peel which will enhance the FRAXEL results. I had to wait at least six weeks to ensure proper healing. I’m a bit nervous and I flat out asked her if was going to look like Samantha from Sex & the City and she told me that I would not. She did say that I would be pink and the next day I would be back to normal but my skin would feel tight and like it had a sunburn. Days 3-4 the outer layer would begin to crack then peel. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for the VLOG on my peel as well as my AFFIRM results.
During this difficult time, changing healthcare regulations and lagging medical incomes even the most prominent physicians are looking for ways to supplement their incomes. Many of them are turning towards aesthetic treatments. These are elective cash based treatments that millions of patients will pay dearly for. Over 13 billion aesthetic treatments were performed last year alone. Despite the economy, aesthetic treatments rose in frequency in 2009. The recent report released by the American Society of Plastic Surgery listed an increase in non-surgical aesthetic options.

Many people don’t know that there are laws governing aesthetic practices in the state of Connecticut. Did you know that you have to be an MD, Physician Assistant or Nurse Practictioner to operate a laser independently? If a nurse is operating a laser, their Supervising Physician must be onsite and able to observe, intervene or treat any side effects that may occur. Each state has its’ own laws, so check with your local Department of Public Health for your state.
1. Who is the physician associated with the practice? Is their name in clear site at the office? Are you informed of their name and Board Certifications?
2. When is the doctor on site? Do they have an office on site or are they only available by phone?
3. Do patients/clients have access to the doctor?
4. What is the specific speciality of the doctor?
5. What is the specific training and experience of the treatment provider, if it’s not the doctor? How many of these procedures have they done? how long have they worked in aesthetics? Do they hold any special certifications?
6. How often is the treatment provider in contact with the doctor?
7. If a patient has an unexpected reaction, what is the emergency plan? Who is in charge of that plan? Do they have the appropriate qualifications to manage that reaction?
8.What kind of evaluation must patients undergo before their first treatment? Was your consultation performed by a medical professional or skincare specialist?
9. Do you have access to your provider after hours? Do they have prescriptive priviledges to manage any side effects?
10. Who is calling the shots? Did the consulting professional assess your needs or did you tell them what you saw on tv and that is what was done?

Truth be told I’m VAIN. . . cue up Carly Simon music. There I said it. Your face is your business and so is your body. We have all seen what Kati and FUZION have been doing to tweak me ever so slightly. Now it’s Dr. Goodkind’s turn. Over the past two years I have been worshiping at the alter of fitness and nutrition. . . with the help of a personal trainer (thank you DUSTIN) and a nutritionist (thank you CHARLIE).
My body is no where near perfect but I have transformed it into a somewhat lean, trim, muscular physique. But no amount of cardio or fitness has taken care of the bane of my existence for the past 20 years… Mr. Flank and Mr. Gut. Apparently I’m genetically predisposed to carry extra weight in these areas, which have decreased in size over the past couple of years but are still there.
Dr. Goodkind informed today that I was a candidate for Smart Lip MPX, a procedure which will sculpt these areas so that I will resemble a human DAVID (well maybe not really but… a boy can dream).
I’m so excited to have this done. This does not mean that I will give up my cardio/weight training and disciplined eating habits. It means I am one step closer to having my ABS meet the world!
Stay tuned for details fellas—and if you have any questions please let me know!
Hi everyone…I want to give you an update on how I am doing.
Over the past four weeks I have been to FUZION for follow ups on my FRAXEL C02 procedure. There is a very NOTICEABLE difference in the tone, texture and overall appearance of my skin. I am no longer blotchy or red, but rather even and blemish free. There is some slight scarring visible—but still not nearly as much as before I had the procedure done.
Since Kati is a perfectionist, she is not completely not happy with the scarring results. That being said, she wants to treat the surface scarring with an Affirm Laser. Affirm is the “step father” of the Fraxel and will treat the surface, where as Fraxel gets down to the deepest layers to stimulate collagen. I’m heading in tomorrow, so we’ll be posting a VLOG on the procedure—stay tuned. Affirm is not as severe as FRAXEL and will not require any downtime, but Kati tells me that I will be RED for at least 24 hrs. nothing compared to the 7 days with FRAXEL!
I also have a consultation with Laura, FUZION’s aesthetician. If you remember from my first VLOG, Laura scolded me for my tanning bed sins of the past. I am excited to see what she has to say about my skin post Fraxel and four months tanning bed free. Stay tuned for the results and thanks for checking in.
And don’t be shy! I encourage you all to ask questions and Kati and I will be happy to address them in our VLOG.
Okay, the big day arrived for Marit Price, radio personality on Star 99.9! See how she did getting her BOTOX and dermal fillers to get rid of her “mean” line!
Hi Ya’ll! It’s been a week since my FRAXEL CO2 procedure and I must say time flew by! I’ve graduated to a normal gentle facial cleanser and moisturizer. I haven’t shaved all week in fear that I might nick up my face, but I’m looking forward to hearing what Kati has to say! Check out my vlog and see my 1 week progress report.
The day has arrived! Nerves were high but it’s over and I’m looking forward to seeing the results. I’m not gonna lie, it hurt but I must be a masochist at heart to endure this, looking forward to seeing the end result in the coming days and months. Check out my vlog and see how it went.
Out and about. It’s been 4 days since my Fraxel procedure and I’ve mustered up enough confidence to leave my cave – cabin fever has set in and I must escape. My face isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I continue to wash every 3 hours with the distilled vinegar and distilled water mix. My face is absorbing the moisturizer/ointment like a sponge. I’m off to see Katie to see how my face is coming along. Visit to FUZION was GREAT! Kati informed me that I’m healing very well and that I should be minimally red by day 7. I stopped by my friend Melina’s house to show her my results – check out the Hilarious antics of my visit.
72 hrs. later and my face is beginning to heal. My face feels like it is drying out faster than day one – I can’t wash and moisturize fast enough. I defiantly feel a difference. I highly recommend sleep and movies during the healing process, it helps pass the time. Check out my vlog to see day three results.
